The doorway dolly is a film industry standard, allowing filmmakers a robust shooting platform for tracking and dollying both on and off track.
Black Bear Studio Systems's Doorway Dolly is designed with the same basic premise of functionality of the standard doorway dolly; however, its essential design has been innovated from the ground up, resulting in a device with capabilities beyond the mantle of the traditional doorway dolly.
Track Functionality
Perhaps one of the most notable innovations is the track transformation. The Black Bear Doorway Dolly accepts track wheels for standard round track without having to disconnect the standard wheel linkages. Installing the track wheels takes under 20 seconds and the operator can leave the standard pneumatic wheels on the dolly while the dolly is riding on the track. The reverse is also true: the operator can leave the track wheels on the dolly while operating the dolly off-track, eliminating any set up time whatsoever when moving from one function to the other once the track wheels are installed. The Black Bear dolly can literally roll right onto and off of dolly track without adjustment (see video).
Unprecedented Moves
The Black Bear Doorway Dolly is capable of standard front wheel turning, 4 wheel steering, and zero point turning, which allows the dolly to turn around its own axis, follow a subject around the tightest of turns and move in unprecedented and exciting new ways. It is the only doorway dolly capable of front wheel, 4 wheel and zero point turns, thanks to the innovative frame, which accepts these accessories with the ease of plug and play. In under 30 seconds, the rear axle slides out and either the 4 wheel steering or zero point turn modules can be plugged into the rear of the dolly, greatly expanding the creative possibilities in dolly moves.
Increased Dampening and Durability
The Black Bear Doorway Dolly is covered with a Diamond Plate Rubber Composite which acts as a dampening agent over rough terrain, smoothing camera movement by absorbing the shock not only in the pneumatic wheels but in the dolly surface itself. The Diamond Plate Composite also eliminates durability problems encountered by traditional doorway dollies, which normally have a carpet for a surface. While carpet dirties and wears quickly and is impossible to clean and restore to its original luster after significant use, the Diamond Plate Rubber Composite top on the Black Bear Dolly will never fray, become moldy or tear and can be cleaned with a wet cloth or hose and instantly restored to its original state, defying aging and wear. The banding around the dolly top's perimeter further protect edges and surfaces from wear.
Expanded Axles and Stability
In a matter of seconds, the Black Bear Doorway Dolly's wheels can be pulled out along the expanded axles to an increased wheel base, allowing for an increase of stability under heavy, shifting, or edge-centered loads. The dolly can also utilize dualey wheels on both the front and the rear of the dolly, accepting up to eight wheels and allowing for greatly increased stability as well as additional weight when required.
The Black Bear Doorway Dolly accepts seat or pushbar in six locations on the dolly. Underslung brackets may be placed in any of the six locations for low shooting. Sideboards are available to increase platform dimensions. Dolly will travel through doorways both on and off track with ease.
